Try fish oil pills or have a meal with fish a few times a week. The mercury in the fish helps to balance out the serotonin in the brain.

Also some people have seasonal depression. Lighting helps simulate summer which is a better time of year. So add brighter bulbs to you house, maybe get more lamps. Candles can be depressing as colored bulbs too so stick with white sixty watt bulbs.

Also keep moving. Dance around to your favorite music or video dance game. Throw yourself into it.

Another thing is make a list of things to be done. Then check it every few days and cross stuff off. It will feel like an accomplishment versus a burden. Don't check it everyday or else you'll always feel behind the eight ball and make sure you have doable stuff on the list alongside the big tasks. Like clean den and get rid of old clothes. Should be hand in hand with wash dishes and vacuum. Two out of four means you have completed 50% of the list. Not bad for a depressive.

Learn to meditate or read more frequently as an escape. You only need a few minutes to read a chapter or to do some deep breathing. Once you learn to meditate take a yoga class or tai chi. Anything to get you out of the house and around ppl that will dispel the depression to move around.

Before the Depression, government operated on the idea of "That government governs best which governs least."

After the Depression, people expected "activist" government to become involved to solve social and economic problems.

Rick: Fortunately there are alot of ways besides drugs like antidepressants to beat depression. There are herbs like St Johns Wort and many others. There are also support groups, books, and therapy programs that are all non drug. Hope this helps bud!

Why not try a part-time job first. You may then be able to gauge whether you will be able to handle a full-time one. Even then choose a job that is not stressful so as not to drain you mentally.

I am also suffering from severe depression and I understand your sutuation. Though we want to be able to work normally like others, we have to be aware that we are mentally vulnerable and can fall back down anytime when the pressure builts up.

All The Best to you and Take Good Care,

I would say you need to get yourself motivated with life. Do what you think makes you happy. As for regrets from the past, we all have them. The thing is to overcome them and let them teach you for what happens in the future. Don't let the past rule your current life. The past has already happened, the future is yours for the taking. If you like this girl you should take a chance and try being with her. hope everything works out for you. Good luck.

Dear Rabiya....you can not "combat" the feelings of depression and lonliness by yourself. If your depression is chronic (long term) then you need to see a medical professional and consider taking an antidepressant. Your social phobia's are not going to improve on their own. Remember there is a difference between being alone and being lonely. One is a choice and the other is a result. Remember also that this is not like a war that you can win with your bare hands. You need to be strong psychologically in order to change your behaviors and be less alone. best wishes

Try Vitamins. I Know Vitamin B5, B6, and B12 are good. Actually mostly ALL vitamins and minerals are good. A lot of women especially have certain Essential deficiencies in certain vitamins. You said no diet BUT it does have a lot to do with helping without medications. I think some meds are good because they normalize the amounts of certain neurotransmitters in your brain, which can sometimes "teach" your brain the appropriate amount to secrete. Most people don't have to stay on meds forever. But there's NO MAGIC ANSWER and everyone is different! Is your depression seasonal, the first time ever felt depressed, brought on by certain things, or you've always had it??? Sometimes just pinpointing the cause or type of depression can help with a treatment plan. Also, if family history, your symptoms (how severe), how it impacts your life are also important! Unfortunately, mental illnesses are not like most medical problems. No cut and dry treatment. Also, no cut and dry diagnosis either! Good luck- Just see at least a family MD or counseling (Individual) helps me! - Allison
